“I started photography as a hobby with the Photographic Society of Singapore in 1989.

However it was not until 2008 when I found purpose in using photography to advocate for the rights of working children in hazardous environments. It is said that the eyes are the windows of our souls. And in the eyes of these children, the truth is starkly revealed.

Currently, my work is focused on Indonesia, the Philippines and Cambodia. In these countries, I spend time talking with the people, including children, to better understand their culture and beliefs. Sometimes, I will take part in their daily activities, walking the same streets and sleeping wherever they do. Thus, I have come to admire their survival skills and how they stay vigilant. They deserve all our respect.

As I observed and photographed the children in these countries, I began to develop the theme of social responsibility in my work. Through photography, I wish to create awareness in the world, especially to those who are in the position to make a difference, of the injustice and exploitation that exisits. Child Labor may never go away completely, so by telling of their plight time and again, I hope that the situation will not continue to be deliberately ignored.
